Default What drops DYE?

I have tried to cross reference with mobs (in the wiki) but nothing I looked at lists DYE as loot.

I remember (wayyyy back) that Pre-Searing Early Areas seemed to drop dye at a pretty good rate - but nothing has dropped ANY DYE at all since I returned to this game.

I know I can buy it at a merchant - but I would love to 'find' some.

Thanks for any info or a link to mobs to cross reference that I may have missed.

i think that anything can drop dyes....in pre-searing drop rate wasn't higher i believe, only ppl used to farm a lot for Nicholas gift's. I personally had only 1 black dye in many months of playing pre-searing.

U'd better leave this farm as it is also few profitable: only white and black dyes are worth some K.

Thanks for the replies.

I want some Dye for my characters - not to resell. So I am not looking for profit but the "thrill of the chase" LOL

I know I get quite a bit of dye when I solo farm the Hulking Stone Elementals in Old Ascalon. In pre-searing, again, farming the elementals in Wizard's Folly area. While dyes don't drop that often, your chances increase when you farm without h/h.

That's probably why the myth of higher drop rates in Pre started - everything you do there, you do solo.

There is no thrill in going after Dye!!! I think everyone will agree on this one. It is long and boring with highly unpredictable results.

If you want dye for your character, I would just farm for the funds and either buy it from the dye trader or from someone selling them. You will smile and pat yourself on the back for all the time you saved.

That and everything dies quick so you can kill a lot of mobs in a shorter amount of time.

I have one character in pre that seems to find more dyes than any of my others there. Four accounts, four perm-'pres. There are days when I can get as many as eight or ten dyes while farming for Nick's items, and I can go days without any dye drops. This same character got two black dyes in less than an hour. Whether or not it is accurate, it seems that after a couple of hours of farming, I start getting the dyes. And dyes can drop anywhere, anytime, from any bad guy.

during the canthan new year you can get a red dye as a reward for doing the quest Knights who say Nian. I also seem to find more dye in lower level areas (probably due to fewer peeps in my group).

Snograt hit it on the head. You don't need to bring a friend or H/H, and stuff is so easy in Pre sometimes you can just one-shot stuff. For a while I was farming west of Barridan estate in Pre and getting 1 dye every other run sometimes 2. White and Black in the same run once too.

I don't get many white dyes in pre, but I've been getting at least one black a month.

If all you want the dye for is use on characters it would be much more efficient coming up with a farm for money or something else and just purchase the dye.

Most solo farms will allow you to come away with a good variety of dyes and loot (think of Vaettir off-hand) The only real exceptions are White and Black which may take a while to get up enough money to buy in bulk but the others you can get no problem.

With the exception of pink, black and white I have roughly 100 vials of each color just from farming and playing which is way more than I will ever need.

That and the creatures in Pre have a smaller number of items which they drop if I am not mistaken.

I was going to mention this. If the OP wants to farm dye directly (I know the feeling -- I, too, prefer to find my own, and after 2 years playing, I have almost 100 vials of each (except for black and white [obviously], red and silver), farming something with a limited loot table will probably yield the best results.

Though they tend to drop a lot of other stuff, I seem to get a number of dyes in Jaya Bluffs feather farming. At least then you're killing two tengu with one stone -- farming dye directly and farming a sellable mat to buy dye should you get fed up with it.

Everything can drop dye.
For Pre, I would do the bandit raid quest together with that special monk quest ( forgot the name) over and over. It takes two minutes each run and by the fourth or fifth run there will be at least one dye. On some days though it doesn't happen. But it does at least 85% of the time.

I don't worry about dye drops.. solo farm for something else of value and take the dye drops as they come.

My only "farm" is Jaya Bluffs.. the feathers pay for lots of goodies, I get golds to ID, and dyes drop a lot.

A spirit spam rit in Jaya is like a wizzy on sandscrawlers in sinking sands.. faceroll your way to financial security.

I have a farming run that I do on occasion that leaves from the Courthouse north of Nolani Academy and goes north into the Flame Temple Corridor. It's just knots of Charr all along the way and I net about 1 random dye drop per run.

I'm still kinda new at the game and the memory of my 1st character getting killed over and over by Charr is still fresh in my mind, so this farming run is probably more cathartic than profitable.
